BuildingDesignExpert Podcast – George Clarke at Grand Designs Live 2013
Grand Designs Live has arguably taken over, or is at least now sharing the mantle, once held by the Ideal Home Exhibition, as the consumer champion for all things to make our lives a more comfortable in a less stressed environment, including the ultimate DIY excercise of actually building your own home.
I was in attendance at the show over a period of two days in my professional capacity as a Chartered Architectural Technologist, to offer free advice and guidance to members of the public with their own ‘Grand Design’ – however large or small that might have been. At the same time it was an opportuunity to further promote and raise awareness of my profession and institute CIAT. I am pleased to report that all my consultees went away happy and enlightened.
Anyone who has ever seen the Channel 4 TV programme, from which the show has spawned, will know the event is hosted by Kevin McCloud. But he also drafted in some help from his friends to help reinforce that profile, and it was George Clarke who graciously agreed for me to sit down and record an interview with him which you can now hear on this podcast. Over twenty minutes we chat about his views on retrofit priorities, and how he has applied them to his own house. He talks candidly about volume house building, and where we, as an industry, need to be in order to make an impact on our current house building crisis. I listened with great interest, and also threw in the odd comment.
